ACU 10/TTU 33

FS1Galaxy Stadium
Things to say

Texas Tech beat Abilene Christian 33-10 to open the season at 1-0.

01
opener
Tech handled 'em, 33-10, never really in doubt. They jumped out early and just sat on it. ACU couldn't move the ball all night.
02
key player
Will Hammond was surgical — 26 of 33 for 298 and a touchdown. Kid barely missed a throw.
03
hot take
Five field goals from Stone Harrington? That's points, sure, but Tech left a ton in the red zone. Should've been 45.
04
deep cut
ACU's only real highlight was Alex Broome taking a kickoff back 98 yards. Garbage time, but the return game showed up.
05
exit
Anyway, real test comes when they hit somebody with a pulse — this was a tune-up. Should be fun to watch.
The recap

Texas Tech handled its business against overmatched Abilene Christian, cruising to a 33-10 win that never really felt in doubt. Will Hammond carried the offense with 298 yards through the air, and his 64-yard strike to Malcolm Simmons put the game away and pushed the lead to a comfortable 33-3.

Jamond Mathis was a menace off the edge with 2.5 sacks, part of a defense that held John David Black to a measly 119 passing yards and bailed out any lull the offense had. ACU's only touchdown came on a 98-yard kickoff return in garbage time, which tells you everything about how little they could move the ball on their own.
