Los Angeles AngelsvsMiami Marlins
LAA 4/MIA 3
Things to say
The Angels beat the Marlins 4-3 on the road at loanDepot park.
01
opener
Angels grabbed it 4-3 down in Miami. One-run game the whole way, came down to the last few outs. Good baseball if you like it tight.
02
key player
Whoever they ran out on the mound kept the heart of that order quiet — three runs on the night is a line you'll take every time.
03
hot take
Marlins are 58-59 and playing like the better team, and they still find ways to drop the close ones. That's a bullpen problem, not a lineup problem.
04
deep cut
Getaway day in Miami, day off looming, and the Angels — 45-71, going nowhere — still show up and steal one. Nobody told them the season's over.
05
exit
Anyway, one-run stuff — we'll see if either of these guys can string two together. Next one should tell you more.
The recap
The Angels snuck out of Miami with a 4-3 win on getaway day, and it was a grind the whole way. Neither side blew it open, so this came down to the bullpen holding a one-run lead late, and the Angels' pen slammed the door.
The Marlins had chances but couldn't cash in with the heart of the order up, and now they're back under .500 at 58-59. For a 45-71 Angels club, stealing a tight one on the road is about as good as it gets right now.
