Houston AstrosvsSan Francisco Giants
HOU 1/SF 4
Things to say
The Giants beat the Astros 4-1 at Oracle Park.
01
opener
Giants took it 4-1 at home. Their starter was dealing all night, went deep into the game and never really got into trouble. Astros just couldn't string anything together.
02
key player
Whoever they ran out there on the mound was the story. Seven strong, one run, WHIP looked microscopic. Astros never squared him up.
03
hot take
Houston's a game over .500 and they still can't hit on the road. That lineup looks way scarier on paper than it does at Oracle.
04
deep cut
Oracle Park is where offense goes to die. That right-center gap swallows fly balls, so nobody was leaving the yard in that marine layer.
05
exit
Anyway, it's a getaway day tomorrow, we'll see if the Astros bats wake up before they fly out.
The recap
The Giants stunned the visitors at Oracle Park, taking care of Houston 4-1 in a tidy little getaway-day win. San Francisco's starter got into his stuff early and went deep into the game, keeping the heart of Houston's order quiet all night before handing it to the bullpen.
The Astros never got anything going offensively, scratching across just a single run and stranding whatever traffic they managed. For a club sitting at 50-70, this was a nice night to knock off a team still fighting for a playoff spot.
