Houston AstrosvsNew York Mets
HOU 3/NYM 1
Things to say
Astros beat the Mets 3-1 at Citi Field on Thursday.
01
opener
Low-scoring one, 3-1 Astros. Real pitcher's duel most of the night. Mets bats just never got going.
02
key player
Houston's starter was the story. Got into his stuff early, went deep, and kept the Mets off the heart of the order all night.
03
hot take
Honestly the Mets' offense is the problem, not the arms. You can't win scoring one run at home.
04
deep cut
One run at Citi Field is rough. That ballpark plays big, and the Mets left guys on instead of stringing anything together.
05
exit
Astros are hanging around .500 and scrapping for it. Curious to see if they carry this into the next series.
The recap
Pitchers' duel at Citi Field, and Houston walked out of Queens with a 3-1 win. The Mets bats stayed in the freezer all night, scratching across just a single run while Houston's arms kept the heart of the order quiet.
Three runs was plenty on a night like this, and the bullpen slammed the door to lock it down. Mets drop another and slide to 60-75; Houston nudges back over .500.
