Houston AstrosvsNew York Mets
HOU 2/NYM 6
Things to say
The Mets beat the Astros 6-2 at Citi Field.
01
opener
Mets took it 6-2 at Citi. Never really felt close after the middle innings. Nice getaway-day win for them.
02
key player
Mets bats did the damage against Houston pitching. The heart of the order got going and the Astros arms couldn't put it away.
03
hot take
Astros are a .500 team playing like it. Sixty-eight and sixty-eight in late August is not a contender.
04
deep cut
Watch the bullpen usage there. Houston went to the pen a little early and it cost them a couple runs.
05
exit
Anyway, Mets are just playing spoiler now at 61-75. Curious if Houston can steady it before the wild card slips away.
The recap
The Mets took care of business at Citi Field, knocking off the Astros 6-2 to snap out of the funk that's had them buried at 61-75. Houston's bats went quiet after the early innings, and once the Mets pushed across a few runs the bullpen slammed the door and never let the heart of Houston's order get comfortable.
Two runs just isn't going to cut it on the road, and the Astros left the yard empty-handed on a night they needed more. New York's pitching set the tone, and the offense did enough to make it hold up.
