Houston AstrosvsWashington Nationals
HOU 11/WSH 12
Things to say
The Washington Nationals outslugged the Houston Astros 12-11 at Nationals Park.
01
opener
Twelve to eleven, are you kidding me? Nats won a slugfest at home. Both bullpens got absolutely torched.
02
key player
Whoever was hitting in the heart of that Washington order carried them. You put up twelve runs, somebody left the yard when it mattered.
03
hot take
Astros gave that one away. You score eleven on the road and still lose? That's on the pen, not the bats.
04
deep cut
Neither starter got out of it clean. Once you're into middle relief in the fifth of a getaway-day game, it's a coin flip.
05
exit
Anyway, one-run games like that are a grind. Curious if the Astros bounce back or if this thing snowballs on them.
The recap
Wild one in D.C. — the Nationals outslugged Houston 12-11 in a game where both bullpens got absolutely torched. This was a track meet, not a pitchers' duel; you had guys leaving the yard all afternoon and neither starter made it out of the middle innings.
Washington kept clawing back every time the Astros answered, and they finally scratched across the go-ahead run late to steal it by one. When your closer has to protect a one-run lead after both teams put up double digits, you know the pen was running on fumes.
