Houston AstrosvsSan Diego Padres
HOU 2/SD 7
Things to say
The San Diego Padres beat the Houston Astros 7-2 at Petco Park.
01
opener
Padres took care of business at home, 7-2 over Houston. San Diego's bats woke up early and never looked back. Petco was rocking.
02
key player
The heart of the Padres order did all the damage tonight — you don't put up seven on Houston without somebody in the middle squaring one up and leaving the yard.
03
hot take
Astros are hovering around .500 and it shows. That lineup should be scoring more than two in a game like this.
04
deep cut
Watch the Padres' arms here — holding a team to two runs at Petco is the pitching-friendly park doing its thing, but somebody's starter clearly got into his stuff.
05
exit
Anyway, San Diego's rolling — I'll be curious if they can keep it going the rest of this series.
The recap
Padres took care of business at Petco, banging out a 7-2 win over Houston that never really felt in doubt. San Diego jumped on the Astros early and let the bats do the talking, piling on enough runs that the bullpen could cruise through the back end.
Houston's two runs were all they could scratch together, and the offense went quiet right when they needed a rally. Getaway-day baseball, and the Friars sent everybody home happy.
