Houston AstrosvsNew York Yankees
HOU 3/NYY 9
Things to say
The Yankees beat the Astros 9-3 at Yankee Stadium.
01
opener
Yanks took it 9-3 and it wasn't really that close. They jumped on Houston early and the Bronx crowd was into it all night. Astros never had an answer.
02
key player
The heart of the order did the damage — Judge left the yard and set the tone. When he's locked in like that, the whole lineup rides along.
03
hot take
Houston's a .500 club masquerading as a contender. That 66-67 record doesn't lie — this window might be closing.
04
deep cut
Astros manager went to the pen too early and it backfired. Once the middle relief came in, the Yankees just kept the line moving.
05
exit
Getaway day tomorrow though, so we'll see if Houston can salvage one before they get out of town.
The recap
The Yankees jumped on Houston early and never looked back, cruising to a 9-3 win in the Bronx that pushed them to 75-57. The bats did the heavy lifting up and down the order, and once New York built the cushion the bullpen just had to keep it clean the rest of the way.
For the Astros this one got out of hand fast, and dropping back to .500 at 66-67 stings on a night they needed a series game. Comfortable from the middle innings on, this was never really in doubt down the stretch.
