Houston AstrosvsNew York Yankees
HOU 5/NYY 1
Things to say
The Astros beat the Yankees 5-1 at Yankee Stadium.
01
opener
Astros took it 5-1 in the Bronx. Never really felt close after the middle innings. Houston just kept adding on while the Yankee bats went quiet.
02
key player
Whoever they ran out there on the mound got into his stuff early. One run on a Yankees lineup in their own yard? That's a night, I don't care who you are.
03
hot take
Yankees are 75-58 and just got handled by a .500 club. That lineup can't keep scraping one run and calling it a game.
04
deep cut
Houston's sitting at 67-67 and still walked into Yankee Stadium and put up a five-spot. Sneaky-live team when nobody's paying attention.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Yankees bounce back tomorrow. Long season, but nights like this stick.
The recap
Houston went into Yankee Stadium and quieted the Bronx, 5-1, in a getaway-day matinee that never felt as close as one run should suggest. The Astros starter got into his stuff early and choked off the heart of the Yankee order, and by the time New York scratched across their lone run the damage was already done.
Houston's bats did just enough against the pinstripes, and the bullpen slammed the door to salvage a series and drag the Astros back to .500 at 67-67. New York, meanwhile, wasted another home date and let a middling club walk out with the win.
