AthleticsvsHouston Astros
ATH 4/HOU 3
Things to say
The Athletics beat the Astros 4-3 on the road at Daikin Park.
01
opener
Yeah, the A's snuck one in Houston, 4-3. Tight all night, came down to the last at-bat. Astros just couldn't get the big hit when they needed it.
02
key player
The A's bullpen was the story — came in and absolutely slammed the door. When your relievers throw up zeros like that, you steal a game like this on the road.
03
hot take
Fifty-eighty A's walking into Houston and winning? Astros are sitting at .500 and playing like it. That's not a contender right now.
04
deep cut
Houston left the heart of the order stranded in the late innings. One clutch swing flips this game, and they just didn't get it.
05
exit
Anyway, Astros better bounce back tomorrow or this thing gets ugly. I'll be watching that one.
The recap
The last-place A's walked into Daikin Park and stole one from a Houston club fighting to stay above .500, grinding out a 4-3 win. It stayed tight all night, the kind of one-run game that comes down to which bullpen blinks first, and this time it was the Astros who couldn't slam the door.
For a 50-80 team just playing out the string, that's the sweet kind of spoiler win. Houston, sitting at 65-65 and staring at the standings, can't afford to be dropping games like this to the bottom of the barrel.
