AthleticsvsBoston Red Sox
ATH 1/BOS 13
Things to say
The Red Sox pounded the Athletics 13-1 at Fenway.
01
opener
Yeah, that one was over early. Sox put up a crooked number and never looked back, 13-1. Total getaway-day beatdown at Fenway.
02
key player
Whole lineup was locked in, but the heart of the order did the damage — one through five was on base all night. Somebody left the yard, that's for sure.
03
hot take
Honestly the A's should've pulled their starter two innings earlier. Once he lost his stuff they let him get buried, then the bullpen just kept the bleeding going.
04
deep cut
Thirteen runs and it barely felt like Boston stole a single base — this was all OBP and hard contact, not manufacturing anything.
05
exit
Anyway, blowouts don't tell you much. I wanna see how the Sox look against real pitching in the next series.
The recap
Boston took the Athletics behind the woodshed at Fenway, 13-1, and it was never close. The lineup put up a crooked number early and just kept pouring it on, one through nine doing damage all night.
Oakland's starter couldn't get into his stuff and the manager was going to the pen before you'd finished your beer. A getaway-day beatdown, plain and simple.
