AthleticsvsBoston Red Sox
ATH 7/BOS 3
Things to say
The Athletics beat the Red Sox 7-3 at Fenway Park.
01
opener
Man, the A's just went into Fenway and took it, 7-3. Boston never really settled in. That was Oakland's game by the middle innings.
02
key player
The A's heart of the order did all the damage — they left the yard early and the Sox never got their starter into his stuff.
03
hot take
Honestly? Boston's bullpen is the problem. The manager went to the pen too early and it snowballed.
04
deep cut
For a 46-71 club, the A's swinging it like that on a getaway-day feel is the part nobody's talking about.
05
exit
Anyway, Sox need to figure out the pitching quick — I'm curious what they run out there tomorrow.
The recap
The Athletics rolled into Fenway and stole one, 7-3, playing spoiler against a Red Sox club that's been hanging around the wild card race. Boston never got into it — the offense sputtered against the heart of the order while the A's kept tacking on, and by the late innings this one was out of reach.
For a last-place team on the road, this is the kind of getaway-day win that quietly ruins somebody's homestand. Red Sox fans won't lose sleep over it, but dropping this to a 46-71 outfit stings a little more than the box score shows.
