AthleticsvsBoston Red Sox
ATH 4/BOS 3
Things to say
The Athletics beat the Red Sox 4-3 at Fenway Park to snap Boston's momentum.
01
opener
A's took it 4-3 at Fenway, if you can believe that. Boston never really got the heart of the order going. One-run game the whole way.
02
key player
The A's starter was the story — got into his stuff early and kept Boston off balance. When your guy goes deep and keeps the WHIP down in that ballpark, you take it and run.
03
hot take
Boston's 64-53 but they keep losing these tight ones. That lineup should not be getting shut down by a 47-win club.
04
deep cut
Watch the middle innings — Boston left the tying run out there more than once. Fenway swallows rallies when you can't push a runner over.
05
exit
Anyway, it's a getaway-day loss — let's see if they bounce back tomorrow before this turns into a real skid.
The recap
The last-place A's walked into Fenway and stole one, 4-3, over a Red Sox club that's supposed to be chasing October, not dropping games to a 47-win team. Boston's bats went quiet at the wrong time and never really got into the heart of the order, scratching out just three on a day the offense needed more.
Oakland grabbed the lead, handed it to the bullpen, and the pen slammed the door to make it stand. Getaway-day baseball at its finest for the visitors, and a game the Sox will want back.
