AthleticsvsKansas City Royals
ATH 3/KC 4
Things to say
The Kansas City Royals beat the Athletics 4-3 at Kauffman Stadium.
01
opener
Royals took it 4-3 at home. One-run game the whole way, came down to the last couple innings. Kansas City just did enough.
02
key player
Heart of the KC order came through when it mattered — one big swing in a tight one is all you need in a game like that.
03
hot take
Honestly the A's are the better story right now, they're scrappy and hanging around in games they've got no business being in.
04
deep cut
Getaway-day, one-run baseball at Kauffman — those games always turn on the bullpen, and KC's pen held the lead late.
05
exit
Anyway, two bad records slugging it out — I just want to see who takes the series.
The recap
Royals squeaked one out at the K, 4-3 over the Athletics in a game that stayed tight all night. With no leaders posted it's a grind-it-out win, the kind where somebody in the heart of the order comes through late and the bullpen slams the door on a one-run lead.
Kansas City moves to 53-74, while the A's drop to 49-77 and head home from a getaway-day heartbreaker. Not a marquee matchup, but a one-run nail-biter always plays at the watercooler.
