AthleticsvsDetroit Tigers
ATH 1/DET 4
Things to say
The Tigers beat the Athletics 4-1 at Comerica Park on Thursday.
01
opener
Tigers took care of business at home, 4-1. Wasn't a laugher but it never really felt close. Detroit's arms just kept the A's off balance all night.
02
key player
Detroit's starter got into his stuff early and cruised deep into the game. One run on him tells you all you need to know about the command.
03
hot take
Say what you want about that Tigers record, they pitch way better than 43-50 teams have any business pitching. The offense is the problem, not the staff.
04
deep cut
The A's only crossed once and it wasn't for lack of baserunners. They just could not get a hit with the heart of the order up.
05
exit
Anyway, getaway day tomorrow before the series wraps. Curious if Detroit can actually string a couple of these together.
The recap
Tigers took care of business at Comerica, grinding out a 4-1 win over the A's to snap out of their funk a bit. It was a tidy pitcher's game — Detroit's arms kept Oakland's bats quiet all afternoon and never let the heart of the order get into anything.
Four runs was plenty of cushion, and the bullpen slammed the door to lock it up. Getaway-day baseball at its most workmanlike, and the home crowd walked out happy.
