Baylor BearsvsAuburn Tigers
BAY 16/AUB 17
Things to say
Auburn edged Baylor 17-16 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, holding on after Baylor's late two-point try failed.
01
opener
Auburn survived, 17-16. Baylor scored with nine seconds left and went for two to win it. Pass fell incomplete, ballgame.
02
key player
Byrum Brown threw three picks and still won it. Ugly night through the air, but he punched in the 11-yard run that ended up being the difference.
03
hot take
Baylor lost that game more than Auburn won it. Three Brown interceptions and they still couldn't put it away.
04
deep cut
Gavin Freeman had twelve catches for 154 and a score. Lagway threw it 54 times and the kid was basically the whole offense.
05
exit
One-point games in Week 1 tell you nothing. I want to see Auburn against somebody real before I buy in.
The recap
Auburn survived a one-point nail-biter, 17-16, in a game that came down to the very last snap. Byrum Brown was a walking turnover machine with three picks, but he made the play that mattered, punching in an 11-yard scramble for the go-ahead score.
Baylor's DJ Lagway aired it out for 333 yards and found Gavin Freeman for a touchdown with nine seconds left to pull within one, but they went for the win instead of the tie and the two-point pass fell incomplete. Gutsy call, wrong result, and Auburn walks out of Mercedes-Benz having no business winning that one.
