Toronto Blue JaysvsChicago Cubs
TOR 2/CHC 16
Things to say
Cubs blew out the Blue Jays 16-2 at Wrigley.
01
opener
Cubs absolutely buried Toronto at Wrigley, 16-2. It was over by the fifth. Wind was blowing out, balls were leaving the yard, just a beatdown.
02
key player
The Cubs lineup top to bottom was cooking — 16 runs at Wrigley isn't an accident, the heart of the order was seeing it like a beach ball.
03
hot take
Toronto's manager left the starter out there way too long, should've gone to the pen two innings earlier. By the time he made the move it was already a laugher.
04
deep cut
Jays are now under .500 at 37-39 — they were supposed to be a playoff team and they're getting run-ruled in June. Something's off in that clubhouse.
05
exit
Anyway, getaway day tomorrow — we'll see if Toronto can salvage anything before they head home.
The recap
Cubs absolutely steamrolled the Blue Jays 16-2 at Wrigley, and it was never close. Toronto's starter clearly didn't have it early, and once the heart of the order got into his stuff, balls were leaving the yard and the manager went to the pen way too early.
Chicago just kept piling on, turning a getaway day into batting practice. Ugly box score for Toronto, but the Cubs needed a laugher like this to climb back over .500.
