Toronto Blue JaysvsCleveland Guardians
TOR 6/CLE 3
Things to say
Toronto beat Cleveland 6-3 at Progressive Field to take the getaway day game.
01
opener
Jays took it 6-3 in Cleveland. They jumped on them early and the Guardians never really answered. Just a quieter afternoon at Progressive.
02
key player
Toronto's heart of the order carried it — a couple of those guys squared it up and left the yard. Cleveland's arms had nothing on them today.
03
hot take
Both of these teams are sitting at .500 for a reason. This wasn't a contender beating a contender, it was two average clubs and Toronto blinked less.
04
deep cut
Guardians only scratched across three all game. When your bats go quiet on a getaway day, you're basically handing it over.
05
exit
Anyway, .500 baseball in September — we'll see if either of them wakes up down the stretch.
The recap
Toronto went into Cleveland on a getaway day and walked out with a 6-3 win, and it never really felt as close as three runs. The bats did the heavy lifting for the Jays, stacking enough offense to keep the Guardians chasing all afternoon.
Cleveland's pen couldn't slam the door once things tilted, and the deficit just sat there. Both clubs are scuffling around .500, but Toronto's the one that grabbed this series game.
