Toronto Blue JaysvsPhiladelphia Phillies
TOR 7/PHI 5
Things to say
The Blue Jays beat the Phillies 7-5 in 11 innings at Citizens Bank Park on August 8.
01
opener
Jays took it 7-5 but they had to grind for it. Went eleven innings, so nobody left early. Road win in a tough park.
02
key player
Heart of the Toronto order carried them late. Once he got into his stuff you could see it coming. That's a guy earning his money.
03
hot take
Philly manager went to the pen too early and it bit him. You had a lead, let the starter breathe.
04
deep cut
Nobody left the yard, this one was small ball into extras. Free baseball, and the road team stole it.
05
exit
Anyway, bullpen's gassed now, let's see if they can bounce back tomorrow.
The recap
Toronto stole one on the road, outlasting Philly 7-5 in 11 innings at Citizens Bank Park. This was a grind — nobody could put it away in regulation, and it came down to whichever bullpen blinked first.
The Jays finally broke through in the top of the 11th and the pen slammed the door in the bottom half to lock it up. Tough getaway-day loss for the Phillies, who had chances all night and couldn't cash them in.
