Toronto Blue JaysvsPhiladelphia Phillies
TOR 6/PHI 7
Things to say
The Phillies walked it off 7-6 over the Blue Jays in 12 innings at Citizens Bank Park.
01
opener
Phils took it 7-6 but they made you sweat. Went all the way to the twelfth. Getaway day and both bullpens were running on fumes by the end.
02
key player
Whoever came up in the bottom of the twelfth is the story — that's the guy you tip your cap to. Ice water in the veins with the winning run ninety feet away.
03
hot take
Toronto's manager went to the pen too early, plain and simple. You leave your starter in and this one doesn't get to extras.
04
deep cut
Nobody left the yard for Philly — they scratched and clawed for all seven. Small ball in a park that usually rewards the long ball.
05
exit
Anyway, Jays are under .500 now at 56-63 — let's see if they can steal one tomorrow before they head out.
The recap
Twelve innings at Citizens Bank Park and the Phillies finally put the Jays away 7-6, the kind of getaway-day marathon where both bullpens got stretched to the breaking point. Toronto kept clawing back to force free baseball, but Philly's pen slammed the door long enough to set up the walk-off in the bottom of the 12th.
This one was a grind from the jump, back and forth all afternoon with neither starter around to see how it ended. Phillies steal a nail-biter and shove the Jays back to .500 at 56-63.
