AFC BournemouthvsNewcastle United
BOU 2/NEW 2
Things to say
Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth played to a 2-2 draw at St. James' Park.
01
opener
Newcastle and Bournemouth ended 2-2 at St. James' Park. Both teams had two goals and neither could get the win. Felt like a game they both should've closed out.
02
key player
Marcus Tavernier was all over it for Bournemouth, five shots on his own. He carried that attack and they still walked away with a point.
03
hot take
Newcastle at home dropping points to a team sitting near the bottom? That's the kind of draw that costs you come spring.
04
deep cut
Lewis Hall put in 15 defensive interventions for Newcastle, most on the pitch. Guy was cleaning up messes all afternoon and still no clean sheet.
05
exit
Anyway, a point each. Curious to see if Newcastle tightens it up before the next one.
The recap
Newcastle and Bournemouth traded blows at St. James' Park and split the points 2-2, neither side able to grab that third goal to settle it.
Bournemouth pushed the pace with Marcus Tavernier peppering the goal on five shots, while Newcastle leaned on their keeper Lukas Hornicek, who came up with four saves to keep them level. Lewis Hall was everywhere on defense with 15 interventions, but the back lines cracked just enough on both ends to keep this one wide open.
In the end it's a draw that probably leaves both sides feeling like there were two points left on the field.
