Atlanta BravesvsNew York Yankees
ATL 2/NYY 1
Things to say
The Atlanta Braves beat the New York Yankees 2-1 in 10 innings at Yankee Stadium.
01
opener
Braves took it 2-1 in extras. Classic pitcher's duel, nobody could touch anybody for nine. Then Atlanta pushed one across in the tenth and that was the ballgame.
02
key player
Whoever the Braves ran out there was filthy, got into his stuff early and just kept pounding the zone. Yankees couldn't square him up all night.
03
hot take
One run in nine innings at home? The Yankee bats are asleep. That heart of the order has to do something in a game like that.
04
deep cut
Watch the pen usage. Getaway-day, extra innings, and Atlanta's bullpen didn't blink. That's a 71-47 team that knows how to close out the ugly ones.
05
exit
Anyway, Braves are rolling at 71-47. I'll be curious if the Yankees can bounce back next time out.
The recap
Pitchers ran the show at the Stadium — this thing was knotted at a run apiece into the tenth, the kind of game where every pitch felt like it mattered. Atlanta's staff kept the Yankees' heart of the order in a straitjacket all afternoon and finally cracked it open with a run in extras to steal it 2-1.
New York's arms matched them beat for beat but had nothing left to answer with in the bottom half. Getaway-day baseball at its tightest, and the Braves fly home with the win to keep humming at 71-47.
