Tampa Bay BuccaneersvsJacksonville Jaguars
TB 0/JAX 19
Things to say
Jacksonville shut out Tampa Bay 19-0 at EverBank Stadium.
01
opener
Jags rolled the Bucs 19-0. Tampa never even sniffed the end zone. That's a full shutout in August, ugly stuff.
02
key player
Bryan Thomas Jr. was living in the backfield — two and a half sacks. He was the best player on the field, easy.
03
hot take
Nineteen points and it felt like fifty. When you can't move the ball at all, the scoreboard flatters you.
04
deep cut
Wortham took a punt back 63 yards for six. Special teams flipped the whole thing, not the offense.
05
exit
Both sit at 2-1, but the Jags D is the story. Curious to see if that carries once the starters play.
The recap
Jacksonville slapped a 19-0 shutout on Tampa Bay, and the defense was the whole story — the Bucs couldn't move the ball, coughing up 2.5 sacks to Bryan Thomas Jr. alone. Cam Little got things rolling with a ridiculous 61-yard field goal, then Carter Bradley hit DeeJay Dallas for a short touchdown to build the cushion.
Michael Wortham slammed the door with a 63-yard punt return house call in the second half. Neither offense did much through the air, but Jacksonville's D never let the Bucs sniff the red zone.
