Tampa Bay BuccaneersvsNew York Jets
TB 24/NYJ 16
Things to say
The Buccaneers beat the Jets 24-16 at MetLife Stadium.
01
opener
Bucs took it 24-16 in the Meadowlands. Jets hung around but never really threatened. Tampa just controlled the line of scrimmage in the second half.
02
key player
Jalon Daniels was efficient — 10 of 15 for 111 and punched in the one-yard sneak himself. Didn't force anything.
03
hot take
Jets couldn't move the ball when it mattered. That pick-six was the only reason they were even in it.
04
deep cut
Jack Pyburn had two sacks off the edge for Tampa. Kept the Jets in third-and-long all night.
05
exit
Anyway, long season ahead — I'll be watching what the Jets do once the starters get real reps.
The recap
Tampa grabbed this one 24-16 at MetLife, and the story was a Jets offense that just couldn't move the ball — Brady Cook managed a measly 108 yards through the air and the crowd sat on its hands most of the night. New York's only real spark was a 47-yard Ayden Garnes pick-six that briefly knotted it at 10, but the defense couldn't keep bailing them out.
Jack Pyburn wrecked things up front with two sacks, and Jalon Daniels punched in a 1-yard sneak in the fourth to slam the door. Josh Williams' short scoring run had already given the Bucs the lead for good, and they never looked back.
