Things to say

New Mexico beat Central Michigan 38-7 at home to open the season.

01
opener
Yeah, New Mexico ran Central Michigan out of the building, 38-7. It was over by halftime. The Lobos just kept moving the ball and CMU couldn't do anything back.
02
key player
Scottre Humphrey was the guy — 64 yards and a touchdown on the ground, plus he punched in the two-point conversion. Efficient, physical, smashmouth stuff.
03
hot take
Honestly Luke Moga didn't even have to do much. 13-of-17 for 116 and a score — you don't need to throw when your defense is pitching a shutout into the fourth.
04
deep cut
Grant Glasgow quietly hit three field goals, all from 45-plus. That leg was automatic all night.
05
exit
One game in, so we'll see if it's real — but the Lobos look like they could be a problem this year. Anyway, on to next week.
The recap

New Mexico jumped on Central Michigan early and never looked back, piling up 38 straight points before the Chippewas found the end zone in garbage time. This was a defensive mugging — CMU threw for a grand total of 16 yards and simply couldn't move the ball all night.

New Mexico spread the love around instead of leaning on one guy: Scottre Humphrey and James Laubstein pounded it on the ground, Luke Moga was efficient through the air, and Grant Glasgow drilled three field goals to keep the scoreboard humming. Nasir Williams' 23-yard scamper late spared CMU the shutout, but by then everyone had stopped watching.
