CAN 1/RSA 0
Things to say
Canada edged South Africa 1-0 at SoFi Stadium to take all three points.
01
opener
Canada nicked it 1-0, real backs-to-the-wall stuff. South Africa threw everything at them late but couldn't find the net. Smash and grab, basically.
02
key player
Ronwen Williams was unreal in the South Africa goal, five saves and he still ends up on the losing side. Football's cruel like that.
03
hot take
Canada didn't deserve that, if I'm honest. One shot more than they had any right to and they bus-parked the rest.
04
deep cut
Ime Okon put in a proper shift at the back, 80 accurate passes and 19 defensive interventions. Carried that whole South Africa line.
05
exit
Anyway, three points is three points for Canada. Be interesting to see if they can actually keep it tidy next round.
The recap
Canada nicked this one 1-nil and they'll take it, even if it was a bit of a grind. South Africa keeper Ronwen Williams was the busiest man on the pitch with five saves, and without him this could've been an absolute paddling.
Canada huffed and puffed, Tani Oluwaseyi led the way with three shots, and eventually one of them found the net to settle it. No clean sheet for South Africa, but they made Canada sweat for every inch of it.
