St. Louis CardinalsvsMilwaukee Brewers
STL 1/MIL 5
Things to say
Brewers beat the Cardinals 5-1 at American Family Field on Monday.
01
opener
Brewers handled the Cards 5-1 at home. Pretty workmanlike win, nothing fancy. Milwaukee just keeps quietly stacking these up.
02
key player
Their starter got into his stuff early and basically choked out the heart of that Cardinals order all night.
03
hot take
Cardinals are 29-23 but I don't buy it. That lineup's been getting away with murder against soft pitching.
04
deep cut
Milwaukee's bullpen barely had to work either, which on a getaway-day stretch is huge for the back half of the week.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Cards can punch back tomorrow or if the Brewers just run the table on this series.
The recap
Brewers handled the Cardinals 5-1 at American Family Field, and it never really felt close after the early innings. Milwaukee's bats did the damage against the St.
Louis starter, working counts and making him pay when he caught too much of the plate. The Crew's arm gave them length too — no need to go to the pen early, which is exactly the kind of getaway-day win that keeps a bullpen fresh.
St. Louis just couldn't string anything together, scratching out a lone run while the heart of their order went quiet.
