St. Louis CardinalsvsLos Angeles Dodgers
STL 8/LAD 6
Things to say
The Cardinals beat the Dodgers 8-6 in 10 innings at Dodger Stadium.
01
opener
Cards took it 8-6 in extras out in LA. Tie game late, then St. Louis broke it open in the tenth. Rough one for the Dodgers at home.
02
key player
The heart of the Cardinals order carried it — kept turning the lineup over and left the yard when it mattered. That's the difference in a one-swing game.
03
hot take
Dodgers went to the pen too early and it cost them. You can't hand a 70-70 team ten innings and expect the bullpen to hold.
04
deep cut
This was a getaway-day type letdown for LA — 82-57 and still can't slam the door at home. The extra frame told you their relievers had nothing left.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Dodgers bounce back next series — long season, but that's a game they're supposed to win.
The recap
The Cardinals went into Dodger Stadium and stole one in extras, hanging on for an 8-6 win in the tenth. St.
Louis got the heart of the order going late, and when they broke the tie in the top of the tenth the bullpen slammed the door instead of coughing it back up like it has all year. This is a .500 club knocking off an 82-win Dodgers team that's cruising toward October, so it stings a little more in LA.
Getaway-day baseball at its messiest, and the Cards flew home with the series-shifting result.
