St. Louis CardinalsvsPhiladelphia Phillies
STL 6/PHI 7
Things to say
The Phillies beat the Cardinals 7-6 in 10 innings at Citizens Bank Park.
01
opener
Phils took it 7-6 but they made you sweat. Went to extras, ten innings. Cards had every chance to steal it and just couldn't cash in.
02
key player
The heart of the order finally showed up for Philly late. That's the difference in a one-run game.
03
hot take
Cardinals bullpen blew this one, flat out. You're up on the road in the tenth, you close the door. They didn't.
04
deep cut
St. Louis left the yard early but couldn't add on. Strand a guy in scoring position in the ninth and that comes back to bite you.
05
exit
Anyway, Phils keep pace in that division race. Curious if they can carry it into the next series.
The recap
Phillies and Cardinals traded haymakers all night at Citizens Bank Park and needed free baseball to settle it, with Philly walking off St. Louis 7-6 in the tenth.
This one had that back-and-forth feel where every lead felt temporary and both bullpens were sweating by the middle innings. St.
Louis clawed back to force extras, but Philadelphia pushed across the winner in the bottom of the tenth to steal a getaway day thriller. Nobody left this one early, and the Phillies keep their grip on a spot that matters at 71-58.
