St. Louis CardinalsvsCincinnati Reds
STL 10/CIN 9
Things to say
The Cardinals edged the Reds 10-9 in Cincinnati.
01
opener
Cards took it 10-9 at Great American. Total slugfest, both bullpens got lit up. Getaway day and nobody wanted to play defense.
02
key player
The heart of the Cardinals order was the difference. When you put up double digits on the road, the middle of the lineup earned the check.
03
hot take
Nineteen runs combined and this one was a coin flip. That ballpark is a bandbox, the ball just leaves the yard.
04
deep cut
Reds skipper went to the pen too early and it cost him. You leave a starter in that spot and maybe it's a different game.
05
exit
Cards are over .500 and climbing. Reds need to figure it out fast, next series is gonna tell you a lot.
The recap
This one was a slugfest in a bandbox — the Cardinals outlasted the Reds 10-9 in Cincinnati, and in that ballpark nobody's lead ever feels safe. Both starters clearly didn't have their best stuff, so the bats did the talking and the bullpens got dragged in early to clean up the mess.
St. Louis kept answering every time the Reds clawed back, and that one-run cushion was just enough to survive Great American on a getaway day.
Ugly, fun, and exactly the kind of game where the last team to hit wins it.
