St. Louis CardinalsvsColorado Rockies
STL 7/COL 6
Things to say
The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Colorado Rockies 7-6 at Coors Field.
01
opener
Cards took it 7-6 out in Denver. Classic Coors Field slugfest, ball was flying all night. Came down to the last couple innings.
02
key player
The heart of the order carried them. STL's bats did the damage early and it held up just enough.
03
hot take
Honestly a 7-6 game at Coors is basically a pitcher's duel by that ballpark's standards. Altitude turns everybody into a slugger.
04
deep cut
Rockies are 54-87, so the Cards were supposed to roll here. Letting Colorado hang around and score six is the part that should bug St. Louis.
05
exit
Cards are right at .500 at 71-71, so every one of these is a season game now. We'll see if they carry it into the next one.
The recap
Cards squeaked one out at Coors, 7-6, in exactly the kind of altitude slugfest that keeps you sweating till the last out. St.
Louis got just enough offense to stay ahead of a Rockies club that never quits swinging at home, and Colorado's late push came up a run short. This was a bullpen tightrope in thin air, where every fly ball feels like it might leave the yard.
Cards climb back to .500 at 71-71 while the last-place Rockies drop another one.
