St. Louis CardinalsvsColorado Rockies
STL 7/COL 10
Things to say
The Rockies beat the Cardinals 10-7 at Coors Field.
01
opener
Ten to seven at Coors, so you know what that means. Ball was flying all night. Cardinals hung around but Colorado's bats just wouldn't quit.
02
key player
The heart of the Rockies order did the damage — a couple left the yard and the middle of that lineup was locked in all game.
03
hot take
St. Louis manager went to the pen way too early. You leave your guy in another inning and maybe this one's still close.
04
deep cut
Coors does this every time — nobody's ERA is safe up there. That thin air turns warning-track outs into souvenirs.
05
exit
Cardinals are barely over .500 and running out of runway. We'll see if they can bounce back tomorrow on getaway day.
The recap
Coors Field did its usual thing and turned this one into a track meet, with the Rockies outslugging the Cardinals 10-7 on a getaway day in Denver. St.
Louis put up seven and still walked out empty because Colorado's bats just kept coming, leaving the yard and stacking crooked numbers the visitors couldn't answer. Once the Cardinals went to the pen the rope ran out fast, and the thin air did the rest.
A rough day for a St. Louis club still scrapping to stay in the mix at 71-72.
