CHE 3/FUL 2
Things to say
Chelsea beat Fulham 3-2 away at Craven Cottage on opening weekend.
01
opener
Chelsea nicked it 3-2 over at the Cottage. Proper end-to-end stuff, five goals. Fulham threw everything at it late but couldn't find the equalizer.
02
key player
Cole Palmer was the difference again. Five shots, ran the whole thing through him. Chelsea are a different side when he's on it.
03
hot take
Three goals conceded on day one, though. Fun to watch, but that defense is going to cost them by Christmas.
04
deep cut
Young Acheampong put in 18 defensive interventions in a west London derby. That's a lot to ask of a kid and he barely put a foot wrong.
05
exit
Long season, but that's a statement start. Curious what they look like against a proper top-six side next.
The recap
Chelsea went to Craven Cottage and nicked all three points in a proper five-goal thriller, edging Fulham 3-2 in the London derby. Cole Palmer was the difference again, firing off five shots and dragging the visitors along whenever Fulham threatened to level.
Josh King and the home side kept swinging, but Chelsea's back line held just enough in the end to see it out. Brilliant start to the season for Chelsea; Fulham left ruing what could've been a point.
