Chicago CubsvsSt. Louis Cardinals
CHC 7/STL 3
Things to say
The Cubs beat the Cardinals 7-3 at Busch Stadium.
01
opener
Cubs took it 7-3 in St. Louis. They jumped on the Cards early and never really looked back. Nice road win before the break.
02
key player
The Cubs' bats did the damage, but their starter was the story. Went into the sixth, kept the ball in the yard, and handed it to the pen with a lead.
03
hot take
Cardinals are a .500 club for a reason. Fifty-three and fifty-three, no starting pitching, and it shows every getaway day.
04
deep cut
Chicago's up to sixty wins already. That's fourteen games clear of St. Louis in the loss column. This division's basically over.
05
exit
Cubs are the real deal this year. Curious to see if they can keep it rolling after the break.
The recap
Cubs went into Busch and roughed up the Cardinals 7-3 on a getaway day, and it wasn't as close as the score makes it look. Chicago's starter got into his stuff early and the heart of the order did the damage, stacking up runs while St.
Louis never really threatened. The Cardinals bullpen didn't help matters, but this was Cubs baseball all afternoon.
At 60-46 they keep their foot on the gas while St. Louis sinks back to .500 at 53-53.
