Chicago CubsvsWashington Nationals
CHC 12/WSH 6
Things to say
The Cubs beat the Nationals 12-6 in Washington on Wednesday.
01
opener
Cubs went into Nationals Park and hung a dozen on them. 12-6, and honestly it wasn't even that close. Chicago's just the better team right now.
02
key player
I don't want to fake a box score I didn't see, but the whole heart of that Cubs order was feasting—you don't put up 12 without three or four guys leaving the yard.
03
hot take
Washington's bullpen is cooked. Once the game got away, the manager kept running arms out there like it'd get better. It didn't.
04
deep cut
Look at the records—Cubs are 71-50, Nats are 59-63. This wasn't an upset, this was the standings showing up in person.
05
exit
Anyway, Chicago's rolling. Curious if they can keep it up once they're facing somebody over .500 again.
The recap
Cubs went into Nationals Park and put up a dozen, and 12-6 on the road is the kind of getaway-day beatdown where the bat rack does all the talking. Washington hung six on the board, so it's not like they rolled over, but Chicago's lineup kept turning the order over and the Nats never really slammed the door.
This is a first-place club feeding on a team playing out the string, and it showed. At 71-50 the Cubs look every bit like they belong in the conversation come October.
