Chicago CubsvsPittsburgh Pirates
CHC 1/PIT 12
Things to say
Pirates blew out the Cubs 12-1 at PNC Park.
01
opener
Pirates absolutely waxed the Cubs last night, twelve to one. Wasn't even competitive past the third. PNC was rocking.
02
key player
Whoever Pittsburgh ran out there got into his stuff early — Cubs hitters looked completely lost, barely a hard-hit ball all night.
03
hot take
Both teams sitting at 29-26 and you'd never know it watching that game. Cubs are a paper tiger right now.
04
deep cut
Counsell left his starter in way too long once it got out of hand. Why burn arms in a blowout on a getaway stretch? Bullpen's gonna feel that this weekend.
05
exit
Anyway, curious if the Cubs bounce back tonight or if this thing snowballs into a sweep.
The recap
Pirates absolutely buried the Cubs 12-1 at PNC, a true woodshed game from the jump. Pittsburgh's bats got into Chicago's starter early and the heart of the order kept piling on, turning this into a laugher by the middle innings.
Cubs skipper went to the pen too early and it just bled more runs, no way back once the lead ballooned. Both clubs sit at 29-26 now, but only one walked out of that yard feeling good about it.
