Chicago CubsvsKansas City Royals
CHC 6/KC 4
Things to say
The Cubs beat the Royals 6-4 at Kauffman Stadium.
01
opener
Cubs took it 6-4 in KC. Chicago's just the better team right now and it showed. Royals hung around but never really threatened late.
02
key player
The heart of that Cubs order did the damage — they left the yard early and the Royals never caught up. That lineup one through five is just relentless.
03
hot take
Honestly, KC's manager went to the pen too early. Your starter's got a decent WHIP and you're yanking him? Let the guy work.
04
deep cut
Watch the Cubs' road record — 68-49 overall and they keep stealing these getaway-day games in someone else's park. That's the mark of a real contender.
05
exit
Anyway, Royals are basically playing spoiler at 48-69. Cubs are the ones I'd keep an eye on come October.
The recap
Cubs went into Kansas City and grabbed a 6-4 win to keep the good times rolling for a team that's now 19 games over .500. The Royals hung around and made it a game, but Chicago's bats did enough damage to stay in front all afternoon.
Kansas City is buried at 48-69, and this was just another reminder of the gap between a contender and a club playing out the string. The Cubs take it and keep humming along toward October.
