Miami DolphinsvsWashington Commanders
MIA 7/WSH 20
Things to say
Washington beat Miami 20-7 at Northwest Stadium.
01
opener
Commanders took care of business, 20-7. Miami jumped out early but couldn't move the ball after that. Washington just wore them down and pulled away.
02
key player
Kaytron Allen was the workhorse — 23 carries, 85 yards and a touchdown. That's smashmouth football right there.
03
hot take
Miami's only points came on the opening drive. After that the offense was flat-out invisible.
04
deep cut
Washington leaned on the run all night and won time of possession easy. Nobody threw for even 90 yards — this was won at the line of scrimmage.
05
exit
Long way to go before it counts, but the Commanders look like they've got their identity. On to next week.
The recap
Miami jumped out first when De'Von Achane punched one in from a yard out, but that 7-0 lead was all the Dolphins would get all night. Washington answered with a Jake Moody field goal, then flipped the game on the ground and never looked back, chipping away until they'd rattled off 20 unanswered.
Kaytron Allen was the workhorse, grinding out 85 yards on 23 carries and a short touchdown while Miami just couldn't move the ball after that opening drive. Commanders roll 20-7, and the defense choking Miami down to a single score was the whole story.
