Eastern Kentucky ColonelsvsJacksonville State Gamecocks
EKU 7/JXST 49
Things to say
Jacksonville State beat Eastern Kentucky 49-7 at home.
01
opener
JVST just ran EKU off the field, 49-7. It was over by halftime. Creel was picking them apart from the jump.
02
key player
Jamill Williams was uncoverable — 7 catches, 144 yards, four touchdowns. Guy scored more than EKU's whole offense.
03
hot take
Creel threw for five scores but that pick keeps him out of the Heisman chat. Clean it up and it's a perfect night.
04
deep cut
Caleb Nix took a pick 43 yards to the house too — when your defense is scoring, it's a long night for the other guys.
05
exit
EKU's 0-2 and can't get out of its own way. We'll see if they figure out the passing game next week.
The recap
Jacksonville State turned this into a laugher early, hanging 28 on Eastern Kentucky before the Colonels even found the end zone. Caden Creel was surgical, carving up EKU for 327 yards and five touchdowns, and Jamill Williams was his go-to guy all night, hauling in seven catches for 144 and four scores of his own.
The defense got in on it too, with Caleb Nix taking a pick 43 yards to the house as part of a two-interception day that turned EKU's passing game into nothing. Brady Hensley's 72-yard house call was the only real highlight for the Colonels, who never could move the ball otherwise in a 49-7 wipeout.
