San Francisco GiantsvsChicago Cubs
SF 18/CHC 3
Things to say
Giants pounded the Cubs 18-3 at Wrigley on Friday.
01
opener
Did you see what the Giants did at Wrigley? Eighteen runs. They batted around twice and the Cubs bullpen never had a chance.
02
key player
The whole heart of the order was leaving the yard — when SF puts up 18 you know it wasn't one guy, it was top-to-bottom damage.
03
hot take
Cubs manager went to the pen way too early and got cooked for it. You're at home, you let your starter wear one.
04
deep cut
Giants are 26-38 and just hung a crooked number on a team over .500. That's the kind of getaway day where somebody's job gets a hard look on the flight home.
05
exit
Anyway, we'll see if the Cubs can stop the bleeding tomorrow — Wrigley in June, the wind decides everything.
The recap
Giants absolutely torched the Cubs 18-3 at Wrigley, and it wasn't even close past the middle innings. San Francisco's bats woke up in a big way — when you hang 18 on the road, the whole lineup is squaring it up, not just one guy carrying it.
Cubs skipper had to be burning through the bullpen by the fifth, and once a game gets out of hand at Wrigley with the wind blowing out, forget it. Rough day for Chicago, but the Giants needed something like this sitting at 26-38.
