San Francisco GiantsvsCleveland Guardians
SF 2/CLE 5
Things to say
The Cleveland Guardians beat the San Francisco Giants 5-2 at Progressive Field.
01
opener
Guardians took it 5-2 at home. Getaway day afternoon game, and Cleveland just controlled it the whole way. Giants never really threatened.
02
key player
Cleveland's starter was the story. Got into his stuff early, went deep into the game, and the Giants' heart of the order had nothing on him.
03
hot take
San Francisco's at 52-75 for a reason. That offense is dead, and no bullpen decision was going to save two runs of production.
04
deep cut
Watch the middle innings. Cleveland tacked on with two outs and nobody on, and that's the kind of stuff that quietly buries a getaway-day opponent.
05
exit
Anyway, Guardians are creeping back toward .500. Let's see if they can keep it rolling in the next series.
The recap
Getaway day matinee at Progressive Field, and the Guardians handled business, 5-2 over the Giants. Cleveland's starter set the tone early and kept San Francisco's heart of the order off balance, while the offense scratched across enough to never really sweat it.
The Giants couldn't string much together and left too many ducks on the pond in a lost afternoon. The bullpen slammed the door and Cleveland walks away with the series-day W.
