San Francisco GiantsvsPittsburgh Pirates
SF 2/PIT 5
Things to say
The Pirates beat the Giants 5-2 at PNC Park on a getaway day.
01
opener
Pirates took it 5-2 at PNC. Bucs jumped on them early and never really let go. Giants just couldn't string anything together.
02
key player
Pittsburgh's starter was the story — got into his stuff early and gave them length, which is exactly what a tired bullpen needed.
03
hot take
San Francisco's offense is a mess right now. You can't win in September when the heart of the order goes quiet like that.
04
deep cut
Watch the Pirates' bottom of the order — that's where the runs came from, not the guys you'd expect.
05
exit
Anyway, Giants are cooked at 58-83. Let's see if the Bucs can keep it rolling in the next series.
The recap
The Pirates took care of business at home on a getaway day, knocking off the Giants 5-2 at PNC Park. San Francisco couldn't string anything together against Pittsburgh's arms, and the bullpen slammed the door late to protect the lead.
This one was over once the Pirates pushed across the runs that put it out of reach and let their relievers coast. Not a marquee matchup, but Pittsburgh keeps chipping away while the Giants keep sinking in the standings.
