Cleveland GuardiansvsDetroit Tigers
CLE 6/DET 4
Things to say
Cleveland beat Detroit 6-4 on the road at Comerica Park.
01
opener
Guardians took it 6-4 in Detroit. Tight one until Cleveland's bats woke up. Classic getaway-day baseball, kind of sloppy in spots.
02
key player
Cleveland's heart of the order carried it — a couple hits in the middle innings that flipped the whole thing. That's the guy you don't want up in a big spot.
03
hot take
Detroit's manager went to the pen too early. Their starter still had life, and the bullpen just handed it right back.
04
deep cut
Both teams are sitting right around .500, so honestly this was two mediocre clubs — the difference was Cleveland doing the little things and not leaving guys stranded.
05
exit
Anyway, division stuff. Let's see if Detroit can bounce back and take the series.
The recap
Cleveland went into Comerica and grabbed a 6-4 win to even up a scrappy series between two clubs sitting right around .500. The Guardians did their damage against the heart of Detroit's staff and built enough cushion to hand it off to the bullpen with the lead.
Detroit clawed back within two but never got the big hit to flip it, and the pen slammed the door in the ninth. Getaway-day baseball, nothing pretty, but the Guardians take it.
