Cleveland GuardiansvsChicago White Sox
CLE 3/CHW 5
Things to say
The Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-3 at Rate Field.
01
opener
Sox took it 5-3 over Cleveland. Tight one until the Chicago bats finally woke up. Rate Field crowd went home happy.
02
key player
Whoever the Sox ran out to start went deep enough to hand it off with the lead — that's all you can ask on a getaway day. The heart of their order did the damage.
03
hot take
Cleveland's bullpen has been shaky all year, and it cost them again. You can't keep leaning on the pen that early.
04
deep cut
Guardians left the bags loaded more than once and only put up three. That's the whole game right there — OBP means nothing if you can't cash it in.
05
exit
Anyway, these two go again tomorrow — should tell us if the Sox are actually turning it around or if this was a one-off.
The recap
The White Sox took care of business at home, knocking off Cleveland 5-3 on a getaway day at Rate Field. Chicago's bats did enough damage against the Guardians' staff, and the bullpen slammed the door to lock down the two-run cushion.
Cleveland's offense couldn't string together enough against the heart of the order and drops another close one. That win nudges the Sox to 61-56 while the Guardians slip under .500 at 58-61.
