Hampton PiratesvsMaryland Terrapins
HAMP 0/MD 62
Things to say
Maryland shut out Hampton 62-0 at SECU Stadium.
01
opener
Maryland ran Hampton off the field, 62-0. It was over by the second quarter. Total mismatch, and the Terps looked like they were just having fun out there.
02
key player
DeJuan Williams only touched it three times and went for 116 and two scores. Thirty-eight yards a carry — you don't need many when they're going that far.
03
hot take
Honestly a shutout tells you more about the schedule than the defense. Hampton couldn't move the ball, but let's see that D-line get tested by a Big Ten offense.
04
deep cut
They emptied the bench and still scored — the last two touchdowns came from the backup quarterback and a third-string back. That's a running clock in the fourth.
05
exit
Cupcake opener, though. The real question is whether that line holds up once conference play starts.
The recap
This was a beatdown from the jump — Maryland ran Hampton off the field 62-0 and never let the Pirates sniff the end zone. DeJuan Williams was a cheat code, ripping off 116 yards and two scores on just three carries, while the ground game piled on rushing touchdowns like it was a scrimmage.
Hampton couldn't move the ball at all, with Jalen Woods tossing two picks and the whole offense mustering next to nothing against a Terp defense that pitched a shutout. By the time the backups were in and Jianni Davis punched in the final touchdown, this one had been over since the first quarter.
