Carolina HurricanesvsMontreal Canadiens
CAR 3/MTL 2
Things to say
Carolina beat Montreal 3-2 in overtime at the Bell Centre.
01
Canes got it in OT, 3-2. Montreal hung tough at home but couldn't close it out in regulation. Bell Centre was rocking and they still couldn't get the bounce.
02
key player
Taylor Hall looked like vintage Hall out there — goal and an assist, and he was a problem every shift.
03
hot take
Montreal doesn't lose that game if they bury one on the power play. They had the looks, just couldn't finish from the slot.
04
deep cut
Mike Matheson with the goal from the back end for Montreal — a defenseman leading your scoring usually means your forwards had a quiet night.
05
exit
Anyway, Carolina's rolling. Curious what they look like next time out.
The recap
Hurricanes stole one in Montreal, edging the Canadiens 3-2 in OT at the Bell Centre. Taylor Hall was the guy who carried it, finding twine to keep Carolina alive when Montreal looked like they had the building rocking.
Mike Matheson answered for the Habs and Jake Evans chipped in the helper, but the home side couldn't bury the dagger in regulation. Once it spilled into the extra frame, Carolina pounced and walked out with two points.
