Idaho VandalsvsUtah Utes
IDHO 14/UTAH 66
Things to say
Utah blew out Idaho 66-14 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
01
opener
Yeah, that one was over by halftime. Utah just hung 66 on Idaho at home. Never a doubt.
02
key player
Dampier was surgical — 13 of 18 for 176 and three touchdowns. Barely broke a sweat before they sat him.
03
hot take
Honestly the score flatters Idaho. Utah emptied the bench and still had backups throwing touchdowns.
04
deep cut
Idaho's QB Wood led them in both passing and rushing. When your passer is also your leading rusher, you couldn't move the ball.
05
exit
Tune-up game, nothing more. The real test is when Utah hits conference play.
The recap
Utah opened its season by turning Idaho into a tackling dummy, running away 66-14 in a game that was never a game. Devon Dampier barely broke a sweat, going 13-of-18 for 176 and three scores before the backups took over and kept the points coming.
Idaho couldn't move the ball all night, and Joshua Wood's 22-yard scramble was about the only bright spot as the Vandals fell to 0-2. This was smashmouth from the opening whistle, and Utah's second and third string got fat on garbage-time reps.
