Sporting Kansas CityvsAtlanta United FC
SKC 1/ATL 2
Things to say
Atlanta United beat Sporting Kansas City 2-1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
01
opener
Atlanta got the job done at home, 2-1 over Kansas City. Nothing pretty about it, but three points is three points. Both of these teams have been rough all year.
02
key player
Tomás Jacob was everywhere in the back, 12 defensive interventions. That's the guy holding Atlanta's whole shape together right now.
03
hot take
Sporting are just done. Sitting on 14 losses in August? That's a team already thinking about next season.
04
deep cut
Kansas City actually had the ball more, Berg Johnsen led everybody in accurate passes. Possession doesn't mean a thing if you can't finish.
05
exit
Anyway, Atlanta's clawing back toward the playoff line. Let's see if they can actually string a couple together.
The recap
Atlanta United took care of business at home, edging Sporting KC 2-1 in a game that was closer on the scoreboard than it needed to be. Both sides were toothless in front of goal, but Atlanta did just enough to find the net twice and hold on.
Tomás Jacob was everywhere at the back with a dozen defensive interventions, snuffing out SKC's counters before they got going. For Kansas City, another road loss just piles onto a rough season, and their 4-3-14 record tells you all you need to know about how it's going.
