Lamar CardinalsvsLouisiana Ragin' Cajuns
LAM 7/UL 38
Things to say
Louisiana beat Lamar 38-7 at home to move to 1-0.
01
opener
Louisiana just ran Lamar out of the building, 38-7. It was over by halftime. The Cajuns did whatever they wanted on the ground.
02
key player
Darrell Smith was the whole show — 84 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns, including a 25-yarder. Dude was a problem all night.
03
hot take
Winfield threw two picks and I don't even care. When you're running for four scores, the quarterback can just hand it off and stay out of the way.
04
deep cut
The defense actually outscored Lamar's offense — Lamar's only touchdown was a pick-six on their own guy. McCown threw three interceptions. Brutal.
05
exit
Anyway, Lamar's got real problems, but 1-0 is 1-0 for the Cajuns. Curious to see how they hold up against somebody with a pulse.
The recap
Louisiana never let this one get interesting, jumping on Lamar early and rolling to a 38-7 laugher. Darrell Smith did the heavy lifting on the ground, punching in two touchdowns including a 25-yard scamper, while the defense absolutely feasted — they picked off Lamar's quarterbacks a combined five times and even took one back to the house.
Lamar simply couldn't move the ball, and their only points came on a garbage-time pick-six of a backup. Smashmouth football with a side of takeaways, and the Ragin' Cajuns cruised.
