Things to say

Newcastle and Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw at St. James' Park.

01
opener
Cracking game up at St. James', ended two-all. Newcastle went toe-to-toe with Liverpool and got a point out of it. End to end stuff, could've gone either way.
02
key player
Wissa was a menace up top for Newcastle, led the game with four shots. He's the reason they didn't roll over.
03
hot take
Say what you want, but Liverpool dropping points at Newcastle this early is a bad look for the champions.
04
deep cut
Hornicek made five saves in the Newcastle goal, otherwise that's a proper paddling. He earned that point on his own.
05
exit
Long season though, one point away at St. James' isn't the end of the world. On to the next one.
The recap

Cracking end-to-end stuff at St. James' Park, and Newcastle will be gutted they couldn't hold on for the win against the champions.

Both sides threw everything at it and finished level at 2-2, honest to goodness end-to-end chaos. Cody Gakpo was Liverpool's live wire up top with six shots, while Yoane Wissa kept the Toon dangerous and Lukas Hornicek had to be brilliant with five saves to salvage the point.

A share of the spoils feels about right, but nobody's walking away from this one bored.
